Water sports using your own craft is available on Ladyburn Lake at Druridge Bay Country Park, Bolam Lake at Bolam Lake Country Park (Excluding March 15th until June 16th for bird nesting) and Queen Elizabeth II Lake at the QE II Country Park.
From the drop-down menus below, choose the location of your permit and duration; you can have a day, week, or annual permit. We now also have an annual permit that covers all three locations. Please take note of the rules on each of the water bodies and follow them accordingly.

CONDITIONS AND GUIDELINES FOR WATERSPORTS USE OF NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY COUNCIL WATER WAYS


1. Permit – Anyone launching a craft must have within their possession a valid permit.

2. Buoyancy Aids – Adequate personal buoyancy must be worn at all times. Buoyancy aid or lifejacket must meet relevant British standards of 50 N of buoyancy.

3. Condition & Type of Craft – No Motorboats or outboards, inflatable dinghies or pool floats allowed, all craft must be in serviceable condition, with designated buoyancy maintained. Inflatable canoes/kayaks/SUP’s must display the ISO 6185-1 mark.

4. Area for use – Launching is permitted only from entry points provided; users must stay out of restricted areas designated. Launching on Bolam Lake is restricted during Bird nesting season (March – 15th until 16th June).

5. Water Quality – It is the water user’s responsibility to look at Lake side notice boards and make themselves aware of any current water quality conditions including levels of Lake Weed & Blue Green algae.


6. Availability of Assistance – there is no lifeguard or safety boat cover, users going on the water do so entirely at their own risk, persons under 16 must be accompanied or supervised on shore by an adult capable of assisting.

7. Weather – Wind speeds can be greater on the water than at the shore, undertake your level of activity within your level of experience.

8. Other Users & Wildlife – All users must act responsibly and considerately to other user. Deliberate disturbance to wildlife will not be tolerated.
